Acai Berry Video Series Launched To Educate Consumers on Acai Supplements

Acai Berry Video Series Launched To Educate Consumers on Acai Supplements

Power Supplements today launched a line of Acai Berry videos (http://www.powersupplements.com/acai/acai-video.html) to help educate consumers about Acai Supplements. The Question and Answer series of videos address hot topics like: What Did Oprah Really Say About Acai and How to Buy an Acai Supplement without getting Scammed.

New York (Vocus) February 26, 2009 -- Power Supplements has launched its Acai Berry Video series to help educated consumers about the Acai Berry. The Question and Answer series of videos address hot topics like: What Did Oprah Really Say About Acai (http://www.powersupplements.com/acai) and How to Buy an Acai Supplement without getting scammed.

The Acai berry has gained international recognition as one of the highest antioxidant fruits in the world. Dr. Perricone named the Acai berry as the #1 Superfood on the Oprah Winfrey show. Acai has been featured on the Today Shows CBS Early Show, Wall Street Jounal and the New York Times. In addition to the incredible antioxidant levels in the Acai berry, the Acai berry is rich in anthocyanins, fiber, healthy omega fats, amino acids, protein, plant sterols, vitamins and minerals.

While the Acai berry is clearly a wonderful food, there is a tremendous amount of confusion over the health properties of the Acai Berry (http://www.powersupplements.com/acai/acai-berry.html). A quick search online finds thousands of companies discussing the weight loss properties of Acai and making reference to Oprah Winfrey, Dr. Oz and Dr. Perricone.

“We thought it was time to set the record straight in terms of what Acai is, what it does and what it will not do” states Dan Nessel, Head of Research at PowerSupplements.Com . “Our toll free support lines get so many questions about Acai we thought it would be helpful to create a series of Acai Question and Answers videos”.

The list of Acai Question and Answer Videos (http://www.powersupplements.com/acai/acai-video.html) currently includes:

* What Did Oprah Really Say About Acai

* How to Buy an Acai Supplement without Getting Burned

* What is Rhodiola Rosea and why should I take it with my Acai

The straightforward videos walk consumers through the information available at various website to learn the truth about Acai supplements. PowerSupplements.Com believes that if people learn the facts about Acai supplements they will be in a much better position to make informed buying decisions about Acai.

“There are so many websites out there making false claims about what Oprah said about Acai, in our video we go right to the source – oprah.com – and show our viewers exactly what Oprah really did say” Nessel states “ We really feel all this misinformation and deception around the Acai Berry is incredibly unfair to consumers who are just trying to get the truth.”

The Acai Berry Questions and Answer videos may be found at –

http://www.powersupplements.com/acai/acai-video.html

New videos are being added on a weekly basis, so consumers are encouraged to check back often to see the latest videos. Nessel comments, “We have a lot of written information on Acai at our site, but we understand that sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words and that is why we have launched the Acai video series.”

Then and Now: Sodexo Finds Differences in Food Preferences Among College Students Over Twenty-Year Span

Then and Now: Sodexo Finds Differences in Food Preferences Among College Students Over Twenty-Year Span

Student Palates Are Now Global and Local, Change From Cafeteria Food of Past Generation.

Gaithersburg, MD (Vocus) February 25, 2009 -- Sodexo (www.sodexousa.com), a leading integrated facilities management company and foodservice provider to 600 campuses in the United States and Canada, carefully monitors students’ taste buds to satisfy today’s well-traveled, celebrity-chef exposed, green-minded coeds.

Sodexo’s customer insight experts released a food trends menu for 2009 compared to trends 20 years ago:

Food Trends in 2009

1.    Locally-grown fruits and veggies

2.    Crispy garlic-ginger chicken wings

3.    Mac ‘n five cheeses

4.    Vietnamese Phß

5.    Green tea and pomegranate smoothies

6.    Crab cake sliders

7.    Mini samosas

8.    Tilapia Veracruz

9.    Goat cheese salad (with lavendar lentils)

10.    Chicken Molé

Food Trends in 1989

1.    Fruit and cottage cheese plate

2.    Chicken nuggets

3.    Turkey Tetrazini

4.    Chicken Chop Suey

5.    Egg, bacon and cheese English muffin

6.    Half sandwich and cup of soup

7.    Taco bar

8.    Spanish beef and rice

9.    Vegetarian bean chili

10.    Algerian lamb stew

In culling through 20 years worth of menus in hundreds of cafés served by the company and in keeping step with the latest flavor trends, Sodexo came up with the top ten foods preferred by college students today, and twenty years ago.

"The biggest change we've seen is in the demand for locally-grown produce and authentic international cuisine that is made to order,” said Chef Rob Morasco, Sodexo’s senior director of culinary support in the education market. “Super spices, comfort food with a twist, and the new age of Asian cuisine are some of the trends we’re delivering.”

“Parents of college students have cultivated very creative palates in their children by exposing them to many flavors through restaurants, travel, living abroad and creative homecooking,” said Tom Post, president of campus dining for Sodexo. “Our expert chefs on campuses love to serve and dazzle customers with this high level of culinary literacy and we stay on top of the trends to deliver authentic, healthy options.”

Food trends are studied by Sodexo consistently through a variety of methods. Sodexo will host its fourth Food Trends Expo at Seattle Pacific University on March 13. Over 30 chefs will prepare 65 unique menu items, including those from the Food Trends in 2009 list. Sodexo’s Student Board of Directors (www.forstudentsbystudents.com), a group of 25 students who provide feedback and insight about students’ preferences, along with 900 students from Seattle Pacific University will vote with their palates on their favorites. The results will form Sodexo’s Fall 2009 dining menus for all 600 campuses it serves. Celebrity chef Mai Pham (http://www.lemongrassrestaurant.com/meetmai.htm) will lead a cooking demonstration of Vietnamese and Thai creations, along with Sodexo chefs.

The Food Trends in 2009 list was developed by research from Sodexo’s Student Board of Directors, Nielsen’s Annual Restaurant Audit, Teenage Research Unlimited, Technomics Menu Monitor, NPD Group and other vendor partners.

Health/Nutrition News: New Berry On The Block Packs Twice The Antioxidants

Health/Nutrition News: New Berry On The Block Packs Twice The Antioxidants

The little-known black elderberry is "berry" good for your health; clinically-proven to support immune function.

Nottingham, UK (PRWEB) February 25, 2009 -- It's been widely known and touted that certain berries are high in antioxidants, thought to help boost the immune system and help fight off infectious diseases and viruses. The latest to make news is black elderberry (http://blackelderberry.info), the main ingredient in the dietary supplement Sambucol Black Elderberry (http://www.sambucolusa.com), which has twice the natural antioxidant capacity of blueberries and almost twice that of cranberries, according to the Dept. of Agriculture's ORAC rating (oxygen radical absorbance capacity).

Even better, you won't have to go berry picking to get this boost to your immune system now that Sambucol black elderberry dietary supplement (http://www.sambucolusa.com) is widely available in the U.S. Sambucol is the original black elderberry that was tested in published clinical trials and is made from a unique black elderberry extract - originally formulated by a virologist -- with a higher antioxidant capacity than most other fruits. Sambucol dietary supplements are produced from whole black elderberries and have the equivalent of up to 1,000 black elderberries in every 120 ml/4-ounce bottle and are manufactured using the same part of the plant, which has an impact on the consistency in quality and efficacy.

Here are some additional little-known facts about black elderberry:

•Throughout history, black elderberry has been used to treat colds, flu, fever, burns, cuts and more than 70 other maladies, from toothache to the plague. The medicinal benefits of the berry can be traced back to prehistoric times. Evidence of this use has been seen in Stone Age villages located at sites in Italy and Switzerland. Recipes were also discovered that showed black elderberry use in Ancient Egypt.

•The black elderberry, otherwise known as Sambucus nigra L, is a small shrub or bush that is native to most of Europe, northwest Africa and southwest Asia. It typically grows in areas that receive a lot of sunlight and can grow both in wet and dry fertile areas.

•In modern times, black elderberry has been used as a dietary supplement to help boost the immune system. Sambucol Black Elderberry is the original elderberry product sold in stores in more than 15 countries that has been researched and tested in published clinical trials showing it to help support the immune system. Sambucol's unique formulation and extraction process preserves and maximizes the naturally occurring health benefits of the berry.

•The Sambucol line of products (http://www.sambucolusa.com/sambucol-range.htm) is now widely available nationwide at major retailers, including health food stores, vitamin retailers including Vitamin Shoppe, pharmacy chains, including Rite Aid, Walgreens and CVS, independent drug stores, and online at drugstore.com. Go to www.sambucol.com for complete store availability and more information about the health benefits of black elderberry.

Texas Oncology Encourages Texans To Kick Colorectal Cancer with Screenings

Texas Oncology Encourages Texans To Kick Colorectal Cancer with Screenings

Texas Oncology is inviting Texans to kick colorectal cancer by encouraging friends and loved ones to go for a routine colorectal cancer screening. Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cancer killer of men and women combined in the United States, and the disease is estimated to have claimed 9,570 Texans in 2008.

Paris, Texas (PRWEB) February 24, 2000- - Texas Oncology is inviting Texans to kick colorectal cancer (http://www.texasoncology.com/media-center/fact-sheets/colorectal-cancer/kick-colorectal-cancer.aspx) by encouraging friends and loved ones to go for a routine colorectal cancer screening. Colorectal cancer (http://www.texasoncology.com/media-center/fact-sheets/colorectal-cancer.aspx) is the second-leading cancer killer of men and women combined in the United States, and the disease is estimated to have claimed 9,570 Texans in 2008.

Colon and rectal cancers occur with equal frequency in both sexes. It is vital that both men and women age 50 and over and those with increased risk factors be screened regularly (http://www.texasoncology.com/media-center/fact-sheets/colorectal-cancer.aspx) for this deadly disease. Despite the high likelihood of detection with screening, it is projected that 40 percent of the over-50 population in the United States, more than 39 million people by 2010, will not be screened for colorectal cancer. If all people over age 50 were screened routinely, research shows at least half of colorectal cancer deaths could be prevented.

Colorectal cancer often lacks symptoms in its early stages, and because almost all colorectal cancer cases are diagnosed in patients ages 50 and up, regular screening helps lead to early detection, which increases the five-year survival rate from the disease to 90 percent.

"Regular colorectal cancer screenings save lives. Your doctor can recommend the best screening for you, but a colonoscopy is the most common," said Dr. Michael Kerley (http://www.texasoncology.com/providerresults.aspx?id=1410&terms=%40Locations_Location_8+274), medical and radiation oncologist at Texas Oncology-Paris. "Everyone over age 50 should make routine colorectal cancer screenings a priority to kick colorectal cancer before it strikes or catch it early when it's most treatable."

Risk Factors

Besides age and race, other risk factors for colorectal cancer include:

•Family History: People with a family history of colorectal cancer have a greater risk of being diagnosed with the disease.

•Diet: A lower chance of being diagnosed with colorectal cancer is a good reason to stay in shape. Overweight and obese people have a higher risk of developing the disease.

•Lynch Syndrome: This inherited condition affecting the body's genes increases the likelihood of a colorectal cancer diagnosis. In many cases, the positive diagnosis occurs before age 45. Texas Oncology has genetic testing available at some locations to determine if patients have the gene mutation associated with Lynch Syndrome.

•Other Health Problems: Diabetics and people who have a history of polyps and inflammatory bowel disease also have an increased risk for a positive diagnosis.

Screening Types

Screening tests for rectal and colon cancer are not as difficult as many people perceive them to be. In fact, most patients tolerate the screenings very well. Physicians can recommend several different screening tests for colorectal cancer. Among them, a Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) or Fecal Immunochemical Test checks for blood in the stool. Another option is a sigmoidoscopy. During this procedure, a physician uses a tube with a light connected to a tiny video camera to analyze the rectum and lower part of the colon.

The most common screening test is a colonoscopy, where the rectum and entire colon are examined through a scope to detect growths or polyps that could potentially pose a threat (see sidebar graphic for a description of a colonoscopy).

March is colorectal cancer awareness month. For more information on kicking colorectal cancer, visit TexasOncology.com (http://www.texasoncology.com).

Pro Vital – It's As Easy As One, Two, Three

Pro Vital – It's As Easy As One, Two, Three

CNP Professional launches reformulated Pro Vital – an all-in-one performance boosting supplement.

(Vocus) February 24, 2009 -- For serious athletes there are a myriad of nutritional supplements that boost performance levels and aid recovery. Getting the right balance can be confusing, and remembering to take the right combination at the right time is an extra burden to an already busy training schedule. For non-professionals trying to fit everything in around work commitments it's hard to find the time to train let alone select and devise an effective supplement programme.

CNP Professional (http://www.cnpprofessional.co.uk/) is a sports nutrition company set up by athletes for athletes. Kerry Kayes, its founder, is a former champion body builder and currently a nutritional and training adviser to top sports people. Now CNP has launched a reformulated Pro Vital (http://www.cnpprofessional.co.uk/provital-advanced-multi-vitamin-and-mineral-supplement-with-p-159.html?osCsid=e6af096a547e9f722c318ec3b1b1c334), an advanced multi-vitamin and mineral supplement with anti-oxidants, which is comprised of three tablets taken at the same time.

"The idea is to make it as simple as possible for athletes at all levels to get the supplements they need," explains Kerry Kayes. “The government recommends five fruit and veg per day and apart from fibre this does give us all our vitamins and minerals. But a hard training athlete needs more like five to eight per day which is a lot of fruit and vegetables to munch through! Pro Vital supplies all the essential micro-nutrients for an athlete in a convenient format.”

Pro Vital’s three tablets contain a carefully devised combination of vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants that play a significant role in promoting optimum health and recovery during training and competition. Endurance athletes such as runners, cyclists and triathletes, as well as power athletes such as boxers and rugby players, will all benefit from adding Pro Vital into their dietary regime.

For convenience one of each of the three tablets are packaged into a single daily-dose sachet. The three can be taken together each morning with food – there is no need to stagger the dose. Previously the Pro Vital tablets had to be split into a morning and evening dose as some nutrients adversely affected the other's absorption rates. But the new formulation uses a time-release coating on the ZMA tablet so that all the three tablets can be taken in one go.

The contents of each sachet are split into three 'vital' components: anti-oxidants, the patented time-release ZMA (zinc monomethionine and magnesium aspartate) and a high strength vitamin and mineral combination.

Pro Vital can play a significant role in maintaining overall health and fitness. Zinc is critical for muscle growth and tissue repair after injury and magnesium is important for cardiovascular, metabolic and bone health. Together they enhance muscle mass and general well-being. The vitamins and minerals included in Pro Vital play a significant role in promoting optimum health and recovery while the anti-oxidant pro-cardio formula supports optimal liver function.

Pro Vital is available online at www.cnpprofessional.co.uk and the prices have been held at the old price of £27.39.

CNP Professional is one of the UK's leading sports nutrition specialist companies. For more information visit www.cnpprofessional.co.uk, or call +44 (0) 161 320 1212 for sports nutrition advice and +44 (0) 161 320 8145 for sales.

Go Fresh Introduces the Reusable Fresh Snack Pack

Go Fresh Introduces the Reusable Fresh Snack Pack

Trade in a box of disposable lunch baggies for just one of these reusable sandwich and snack bags. This environmentally friendly option is the newest thing to hit the lunchbox.

San Francisco (PRWEB) February 24, 2009 -- Trade in a box of disposable lunch baggies for just one of these reusable sandwich and snack bags. This environmentally friendly option is the newest thing to hit the lunchbox.

The lunchbox is the same but the contents are fresh and new. Replacing the junk food and single use disposables are reusable sandwich and snack bags that can be filled with nutritious food.

"As parents we are the gateway to good habits and healthy eating," says Fresh Snack Pack inventor and mother of three, Crystal Figlietti. "The message that we send our children by using reusable bags is that we care about the environment. Packing fresh food says that we care about them." (www.freshsnackpack.com Snack size $4.50 and Sandwich size $5.50)

The Fresh Snack Pack is easily cleaned by hand washing. The top flap on the sandwich and the snack sizes open out to present a built-in placemat. The top flap can also wrap around a stroller, shopping cart or tricycle handlebar. The bags have an easy-to-open Velcro closure, unlike some plastic containers which are hard to open. The packaging is minimal and completely recyclable.

The original concept and design was created in 2004 and received an award from The National Parenting Center in that same year. Improvements were made and the sandwich size was added. The new product is PVC free plastic, non-toxic, durable and free of any ink printing. The bags have an original design embossed on them featuring planet earth.

As a former fabric designer it may have seemed natural for Figlietti to have chosen fabric as a material of choice for these reusable bags but she says, "I have seen the fabric industry from the inside, having been to print plants in the USA and overseas, and I realized that the inks, dyes and finishes used on fabric are not tested for food safety. That was a concern for me. The Fresh Snack Pack that you see today was very consciously created."

With about 180 school days in a year and multiple disposable bags in each lunchbox everyday, this reusable alternative saves hundreds of bags per child every year from going to the landfill. "We passed the 100th day of school recently and we've been using and reusing the same sandwich bag all year," says Figlietti. "They are that durable."

Separating Fact from Bioidentical Hype

Separating Fact from Bioidentical Hype

Hot from Menopausal Symptoms and Bothered by the Media Hype about Hormone Replacement? People are hearing about bioidentical hormone replacement along with more traditional types of prescribed hormone medication from the Oprah show and other media. Lets separate Fact from Fiction. The word "bioidentical" is not an accurate medical description of this new, unregulated substance and it certainly is not exactly like the hormones the body produces otherwise there would not be a measurable and clinically evident toxic build-up in the body. In "Revitalize Your Hormones: Dr. Dale's 7 Steps to a Happier, Healthier, and Sexier You" (Wiley; May 2005), Dr. Theresa Dale offers a medically proven natural alternative to invasive and dangerous hormone replacement therapies. Dale invented the world's only clinically proven, FDA registered, homeopathic hormone rejuvenation formulas used for restoring hormone balance without side effects.

(PRWEB) February 19, 2009 -- Hot from Menopausal Symptoms and Bothered by the Media Hype about Hormone Replacement? People are hearing about bioidentical hormone replacement along with more traditional types of prescribed hormone medication from the Oprah show and other media. Lets separate Fact from Fiction. The new buzz word "bioidentical" is deceptive. It's not an accurate medical description of this new, unregulated substance and it is not exactly like the body produces. Clearly there is a measurable and clinically evident toxic build-up in the body.

Bioidentical hormone replacement is not natural even though it originates from yam or soy; it has been compounded and thus a synthetic. That's right; health providers perform thousands of before and after saliva tests on patients and it is clear that there is a toxic build up of all hormone replacement including bioidentical HRT.

Women are wary of recent warnings linking hormone replacement therapy with an increased risk for heart disease, stroke and breast cancer, more and more women are turning to alternative and natural ways to balance their hormone levels. Studies have shown that using hormones such as Prempro, Othro-Prefest or Premphase and bioidentical HRT causes the body to shut down production of its own hormones creating a dependency. Hormone replacement therapy can also elevate existing hormone levels to toxically high amounts, which can tax the adrenal glands, burden the liver, kidneys, and circulatory and immune systems.

Yet, there is a superior way to get both clinically proven and evidence based relief without being exposed to the toxic effects of ALL of these drugs. Health providers throughout the US are using FDA registered NuFem & EndoPure Homeopathic Hormone Rejuvenation, developed by Theresa Dale, ND, CCN, NP.

In "Revitalize Your Hormones: Dr. Dale's 7 Steps to a Happier, Healthier, and Sexier You" (Wiley; May 2005; $15.95/Paper), Dr. Theresa Dale offers a medically proven alternative to invasive and dangerous hormone replacement therapies. With over 20 years of experience as a Naturopathic Doctor, Certified Clinical Nutritionist and researcher, Dr. Dale has helped women balance their hormone levels through safe, non-toxic program. The world's only clinically proven homeopathic hormone rejuvenation formulas used for restoring hormone balance without side effects. These formulas actually produce healthy hormone levels in women of various ages, and eliminate symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings, low libido, low energy and irregular menses. The formulas are FDA approved and regulated and are prepared at an FDA registered pharmacy. The remedy goes through a lengthy preparation processes. For example, an herb or substance is diluted and prepared in a manner so that just a micro amount of the original substance is left in the final formula. This method of natural preparation enhances all the properties of the herb and amplifies its efficacy. Homeopathic medicine has been used for 200 years throughout the world, and is natural without toxic side effects. See The Wellness Center website for more education about Homeopathy.

The medical establishment's approach to balancing hormones fails to embrace the concept of the body as a natural living system that is capable of self-repair. Its regimens are based on the premise that people need to look outside our bodies for hormone help via one-size-fits-all drugs. The only hormones that are safe for the human body are the ones the body makes. By using a totally natural and homeopathic program, it is possible to restore emotional, physical and sexual health by following simple and safe individualized nutritional and exercise guidelines.

Solstice™ Goji Bars: Ever Wonder What the President Eats?

Solstice™ Goji Bars: Ever Wonder What the President Eats?

Solstice Bakery is proud to announce that President Barack Obama's favorite Solstice™ Goji Bar is the original Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter. Multiple customers have reported seeing President Obama eating Solstice™ Goji Bars, both in his home town of Chicago and on the campaign trail.

Corvallis, OR (PRWEB) February 20, 2009 -- Solstice Bakery, maker of widely acclaimed Solstice™ Goji Bars, is proud to announce that President Barack Obama is a fan of their meal replacement bars. Multiple customers have reported seeing President Obama eating Solstice™ Goji Bars, both in his home town of Chicago and on the campaign trail.

One customer on the campaign trail noticed how energized then-Senator Obama always seemed to be and spotted him enjoying a "breakfast bar" that he'd never seen before. The customer retrieved the wrapper, was impressed by the wholesome organic ingredients, and placed his first order online. A short time later he called to order his second case, revealing how he discovered his new favorite meal replacement bar.

"My jaw just about hit the floor," said co-founder Reiner Bohlen. "I knew that we had a product that appeals to a wide audience (http://www.solsticebars.com/testimonials), but for the man who would become President of the United States to enjoy our bars… You could have knocked me over with a feather!"

Separately, a retailer in Chicago confirmed that the Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter Goji Bars (http://www.solsticebars.com/buy/dcpb) are President Obama's favorite Solstice™ Bar. The retailer told Solstice Bakery how then-Senator Obama gave them a ribbing when the bars had sold out one day. "Where are my bars?" he quipped. "I just ordered a new batch," the retailer replied, "Watch them get here right after you leave." Ten minutes after he left, the new delivery arrived.

It's not just the President of the United States that enjoys Solstice™ Goji Bars. They also have quite a Hollywood and national following: from the set of the newest Indiana Jones film to trendy athletic clubs in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Manhattan, to the gift bags at the Academy Awards (http://www.solsticebars.com/news/solstice-bars-make-red-carpet-debut). Solstice™ Goji Bars are quickly becoming the new "it" bar!

Solstice™ Goji Bars are all-natural meal replacement bars (http://www.solsticebars.com/bars) that blend great nutrition with fantastic taste, primarily because they are hand made in small batches using minimally processed ingredients. Solstice Bakery is so proud that unlike most bars, Solstice™ Bars are packaged in clear wrappers so customers can "See the Goodness!"™ before they buy them.

Each bar has 15 grams of whole grains, 800 - 1300 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, 6 - 9 grams of fiber, 7 - 9 grams of protein, and a full day's supply of antioxidants from Goji berries and Belgian dark chocolate. With whole grains, nuts, and dried fruit, Solstice™ Goji Bars pack more of a punch than their small size would indicate, keeping customers satisfied for hours.

Solstice™ Goji Bars were created by Reiner and Stephanie Bohlen in an attempt at "stealth health" with their 7-year-old son. "How do you get antioxidants and omega-3's into a picky boy?" asks Stephanie, "It was quite a challenge." Eleven recipes later, in the summer of 2006, they had created their top-selling Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter Goji Bar. Solstice Bakery released their Dark Chocolate, Cherry & Almond Goji Bar in January of 2008, and their Mochadamia™ Goji Bar in October of 2008.

For additional information about Solstice™ Goji Bars, or to inquire about a free sample for press, retailers, or distributors, please contact Reiner Bohlen.

Eleven employees took the Christmas cards company up on its offer and are enrolled in WeightWatchers meetings, which began last week. With the sponsorship of the membership fee, each employee is paying under $100 for the entire session.

Addiction Treatment Finds Success Treating Brain Deficiencies through the Belly

Addiction Treatment Finds Success Treating Brain Deficiencies through the Belly

Arche Wellness, a licensed addiction treatment program near Pittsburgh PA, has found success treating addiction by focusing on patients' malfunctioning gastrointestinal (GI) tracts. Patient data demonstrates that a consistent intake of toxins causes an addict's intestines to stop the natural absorption process. As a result of its effort to decrease toxic load, the body's GI tract inhibits absorption of many essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids, which leads to severe malnutrition, deficiencies and numerous mental health issues. The center now diagnoses and treats this condition using only vitamins, minerals and amino acids, improving the program's effectiveness and increasing treatment success.

Allison Park, PA (PRWEB) February 19, 2009 -- Today Arche Wellness announced its revolutionary four-step biochemical restoration process for treating addiction. Serving individuals throughout the state of Pennsylvania, the Department of Health licensed rehabilitation center provides a medically intensive, outpatient treatment model using only vitamins, minerals and amino acids for those struggling with addiction to alcohol, heroin, methadone, buprenorphine and prescription painkillers.

The four-step system was conceived upon the realization that almost all addicts suffer from some level of gastrointestinal (GI) problems and severe malnutrition. Patient data consistently demonstrated a correlation between GI distress and non-compliance and relapse in treatment. Through laboratory testing, the program now diagnoses the status of each patient's GI tract and repairs the body's ability to fuel itself as the first stage of treatment. Through the administration of medically supervised nutrient infusions, the center restores each patient's biochemical balance and repairs the malfunctioning GI tract to resolve the root cause of drug cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Once the GI tract is functioning properly, the body adequately fuels itself resulting in faster improvement of cognitive functioning and mental health and increased effectiveness in counseling and exercise interventions.

"Many programs look at nutritional deficits in the brain, but few if any examine the malfunctions in the mechanism that fuels the brain where the deficiency actually starts - in the gut," said Erin McClelland, MS, Executive Director of the center. "Active addicts put a lot of toxins in their bodies. These toxins cause the intestines to stop absorbing in an effort to slow contamination of the body. It is a common, natural response to a high systemic toxic load. The result is a body that is not receiving the appropriate level of amino acids, vitamins and minerals. So even when patients stop using, they remain tired, anxious and depressed."

The standard intensive, eight week program includes laboratory testing and infusions, as well as supplements, substance abuse counseling, nutritional education, physical training and spiritual enhancement. "This ensures a comprehensive, complete treatment approach and leaves no issues to chance," McClelland said. To help further this goal, the program includes twelve months of continuous aftercare free of charge, which is unprecedented in the rehabilitation field.

The use of integrative medicine and the inclusion of aftercare aren't the only features that distinguish Arche Wellness from other treatment facilities. They also utilize the Toyota Production System's philosophy of continuous improvement to achieve success. In other words, the program is an ongoing cycle of planning, implementing, refining and analyzing. As a result of this process, the center will soon be offering a specialized, less expensive service for heroin and painkiller addicts under the age of 30 because data shows these patients can recover faster with less treatment. More information on this and other Arche Wellness programs is available at www.archewellness.com.

'Does My BUTT Look BIG In This BEER?' Book Details Nutritional Values of 2,000 Worldwide Beers

'Does My BUTT Look BIG In This BEER?' Book Details Nutritional Values of 2,000 Worldwide Beers

Author and brewer shares closely-held industry info that allowed him to shed 60 pounds while enjoying his favorite brews.

(PRWEB) February 18, 2009 -- Gambrinus Media announced today that "Does My BUTT Look BIG In This BEER?: Nutritional Values Of 2,000 Worldwide Beers" (ISBN-13: 978-0982218204, $10) is now available in book stores and Internet book sites. Author Bob Skilnik has compiled an impressive array of beers, including popular imports, with their nutritional values. Frustrated by the bureaucratic pace of the Alcohol Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) to react to consumer demand and implement new changes in alcohol nutrition labeling requirements, Skilnik contacted brewing industry sources for the kind of nutritional information that might one day be found on the containers of all alcoholic beverages. The result of his research has become a paperback reference book that can be used by dieters counting calories or carbohydrates or by beer drinkers who simply want to know the nutritional values of their favorite brews. Currently, this sort of information is only available on light or low-carbohydrate beers.

"Even if the TTB gave the drink trade the O.K. to add nutrition fact labels to their products tomorrow, the agency would still temper their decision with a 3-year lag period before making it mandatory. To prove a point to critics who say that this kind of consumer-friendly information is unnecessary on adult beverages and to quiet down my doctor who said that my 300-pound body needed a thorough downsizing, I began a weight loss program that included the moderate consumption of my favorite beers, using the nutritional information that breweries have provided me," says the still shrinking Skilnik.

"I'm following a popular brand name weight-loss plan that emphasizes dietary moderation and tracks food and drink consumption by assigning numeric values to them. By making room for a beer or two with my meals and knowing their nutritional values, I've been able to shed weight, and with a supervised program of weightlifting and cardio activities, tone my 'beer belly' from a size 52 to a current 42-inch waist. There are so many beers with their nutritional information in the book that I have yet tried, that I'm determined to stick to this plan and sample as many more of them as I can and get down to my goal of reaching 200 pounds, a 100 pound weight loss in about 1 year."

"While I enjoy the reduced calorie and carbohydrate advantages of low-carbohydrate and light beers, knowing the nutritional values of regular-brewed beers has opened up a new and fun way to shed pounds while enjoying a moderate amount of all kinds of beers. Some regular-brewed beers actually have less calories than light beers. The key to all of this is moderation and the empowerment of knowing the nutritional value of so many worldwide beers. Between "Does My BUTT Look BIG In This BEER?: Nutritional Values Of 2,000 Worldwide Beers" and the website, "Drink Healthy, Drink Smart" (http://drinkhealthydrinksmart.com), there's no reason why any pudgy beer drinker can't shape up before summer begins. As my doctor recently said about my slow but consistent weight loss, 'I don't care what you're doing, but whatever it is…keep it up.'"

Bob Skilnik is a certified brewer and freelance writer. He's been a contributor to the Good Eating Section of the Chicago Tribune and a former columnist for the LowCarb Energy magazine. The Chicago writer has appeared on ABC's "The View," ESPN2's "Cold Pizza," and Fox News Channel's "Fox News Live," preaching the moderate consumption and nutritional aspects of adult beverages. Skilnik is currently working on a similar nutritional research project with wine for summer publication.

"Does My BUTT Look BIG In This BEER?: Nutritional Values Of 2,000 Worldwide Beers" is distributed by Ingram Book Group, the world's largest wholesale distributor of book products. With four distribution centers strategically located throughout the country and the largest inventory in the industry, Ingram provides the fastest delivery available.
